Submission Isn't Just For Wives

One of the most hated teachings in the Bible is found in Ephesians 5:22-24, where wives are commanded to submit their husbands as to the Lord.  The husband is identified as the head (leader) of his wife, and the wife is commanded to submit to him "in everything."  Many women resent God and the Bible for this verse because they think it is proof that God loves women less than men, and that the Bible is chauvinistic.  But that's not the case.

It's important for women to realize that submission isn't just for wives.  Every Christian is called to live in submission to someone.
  • We are all called to submit to God (James 4:7).
  • Children are to submit to their parents (Lk 2:51; Eph 6:1).
  • Citizens must submit to the government (Rom 13:1).
  • Employees are to submit to their supervisors (Titus 2:9).
  • Church members must submit to pastors (1 Pet 5:5).
  • And all Christians must learn to submit to one another (Eph 5:21).
The Bible does not pick on women.  God does not love women less than men.  Women don't have it harder than men.  Everyone has to submit -- to voluntarily place oneself under the authority of another.  The key is to trust God's heart -- that He loves you, and therefore His will for you is best.
