Do you know your ABCs? (How to Lead Your Kids to Accept Christ)

The first step in learning to read is to learn your ABCs.  And the first step to eternal life is to learn the ABCs of salvation.

How do you lead your child to accept Christ and to become a Christian?  It's one thing to share the gospel with them, but how do you help them cross the line of faith?  How do you close the sale, or seal the deal?  How do you help them to make a decision for Christ?

It's as easy as ABC.  Ask them if they would like to be saved right now.  If they say yes, then lead them to do the following:

A -- Admit they are a sinner in need of a Savior.  They can't be saved until they know they are lost.  Show them their lost condition.  Convince them that they have sinned.  They deserve eternal wrath.  They are separated from God.  They cannot do anything to save themselves.

B -- Believe in Jesus Christ as God's provision for the sin of the world.  They must believe that God sent His only Son to die on the cross, in our place, for our sins, so that we wouldn't have to be punished.  And then Jesus rose from the grave and is alive today as the King of kings and Lord of lords.

C -- Call out to Jesus for salvation.  "Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Rm 10:13)."  Lead your child in a prayer to invite Jesus to be their personal Savior and King.  You pray, and then let them pray in their own words.

Leading your children to Christ is the most important and rewarding thing you can do.  My wife still remembers when her father led her to accept Christ at home when she was a little girl.  What a memory!  I hope and pray that you will create the same memories with each of your children.
