Religious Liberty :: A Shield, Not a Sword

I read this recently in an email from Gene Mills of Louisiana Family Forum, and it's a great way of putting it.  The religious liberty laws that are getting so much attention right now, like the ones in Indiana and Arkansas, are not a sword, they are a shield.  In other words, the purpose of these laws is not to discriminate against gays, but to protect people of faith.  There is no hidden agenda here.  There is no conspiracy against gays.  People who have a moral and religious objection to gay marriage and the homosexual lifestyle simply want the freedom to live according to those convictions, as people of faith have enjoyed since the founding of our nation.  As Christians, we love the sinner, even when we hate the sin.  We even love our enemies.  We do not wish any harm on our gay neighbors, but we cannot and must not be forced to violate our consciences and disobey our God.  We cannot approve of something God forbids; we cannot participate in something that offends our God.

Click HERE to read about the new Marriage and Conscience Act (HB 707) that has been introduced by Rep. Mike Johnson.  It prevents the state government from discriminating against Louisianians because of their personal beliefs about traditional marriage.  This link will also give you the opportunity to tell governor Jindal and our state representatives to support it.  I also recommend that you sign up for FRCAction so that you can stay informed and involved.
