It's a Sad Day :: Gay Marriage & The Supreme Court

6/26 will go down in history as a very sad day for Christians, and for the USA.  Today the Supreme Court changed the legal definition of marriage and legalized gay marriage in all fifty states ("Supreme Court Extends same-sex marriage nationwide".  My thoughts today.

  • You reap what you sow (Gal. 6:7-10):  This is what happens when pastors don't preach about cultural issues and politics for several decades.  This is what happens when Christians, for whatever reason, stop being politically active, and stop speaking up about the truth for fear of offending or being politically incorrect.
  • Judicial Tyranny:  Our entire country is being ruled by five, unelected judges, whose job is to merely interpret the Constitution.  And the Constitution says nothing about marriage, and especially not gay marriage.  This should have been left up to the states.  Shame on the Court.
  • Jesus saves:  Homosexuality is a sin that is deeply offensive to God.  And the punishment for sin is hell.  But God loves us in spite of our sin, and sent Jesus to pay for our sins.  If we will repent of our sins and trust in Christ as God's only provision for sin, then God will forgive our sins and change us from the inside out (1 Corinthians 6:9-11).
  • It's time for godly politicians to take a stand:  This Supreme Court ruling is unjust and unconstitutional.  Congress needs take a stand and say, "The Supreme Court is out of bounds, and we will not stand for it.  They have no right to create laws, or to violate the will of the people of the United States.  We refuse to honor this decision."  We need state governors and state politicians to refuse to obey this unjust, ungodly ruling.  We need to elect a new president who will refuse to obey the Supreme Court when it breaks the law.  Who will lead?  Who will stand, no matter the cost?
  • This changes nothing:  God is still on the throne, and we must obey God rather than any human authority.  We will not change our stance on homosexuality or gay marriage; we will not stop speaking the truth; we will not perform or participate in gay weddings (Acts 5:29).
  • Wake up, church!  We must vote.  We must speak up.  We must stay informed.  We must go on the offensive.  We must engage in politics.  Stop entertaining yourself to death and get in the fight.  It's now or never.
  • Protect yourself:  Churches and non-profits around the country will be taking action to protect ourselves from lawsuits, such as adopting clear statements of faith regarding sexuality and marriage.
