Evangelism Training: What is the Gospel?

The most essential element of evangelism is sharing the Gospel with people.  People are saved when they hear and believe the Gospel.  Without the sharing of the Gospel things like sharing your testimony and compassion ministries are not evangelism.  People need the Gospel.

Thus, it is crucial that every Christian be equipped to share the Gospel with confidence, clarity, and brevity.  To develop this skill, try writing out the main points of the Gospel in a short paragraph.  Practice sharing the Gospel with a friend; practice on your family members.  Listen closely to how the pastor shares the Gospel at the end of the worship service, paying attention to his phrases and transitions.

So what is the Gospel (or Plan of Salvation)?  Let me give you an example of the Gospel in a clear and concise paragraph.

God created us for a love relationship with Him.  Our sin separates us from God and results in eternal punishment.  We cannot save ourselves.  Jesus Christ paid for our sins and rose again.  We can be saved by repenting of sin and trusting in Christ alone.

That's the Gospel in a nutshell.  It's the message of salvation.  Learn it.  Believe it.  Share it today.  Share it every day.
