Religious Freedom Before Sexual Freedom (Or Any Other Freedom)
The Founding Fathers believed that religious freedom was the first and most important of all the freedoms. The reason for this is because man's duty is to God before everything else. God before government. God before country. Patriotism is love for country. Religion is love for God. Religion before patriotism. For Christians, this is made clear in what we call the Great Commandment in Mark 12:28-31. We must love God first, most, and as an expression of all that we do. The government cannot force us to disobey God because we will choose suffering and death over disobedience to God -- "Give me liberty or give me death!" Therefore any government that does not prioritize religious freedom will become a government of religious persecution. There is no middle ground. When the government commands Christians to disobey God, it attempts to take the place of God. When the government elevates any other "right" or "freedom" above religious freedom, it wrongly assumes that people of faith will compromise. This they cannot and will not do. People can be forced to do pretty much anything, but a government that forces people to violate their religious convictions will only create more problems than the so-called problems caused by people of faith.
