How to Respond to the Statement That "People are Born Gay"
How do you respond to the statement that "people are born gay"?
First of all, you need to understand why the statement is made. The argument is that since people are born gay, then homosexuality should no longer be treated as immoral. We don't condemn people for other inborn traits like race and sex, so we should not condemn homosexuality. As well, since people are born gay, then homosexuals should be treated as a minority, just like blacks, and should be given special protections against discrimination. And finally, if people are born gay, then anyone who condemns homosexuality is a bigot, and society should treat them the same way it treats racists -- with zero tolerance.
As you can see, the assertion that "people are born gay" has some very big implications for society. And that's why Christians need to be prepared to respond. And responding is actually very easy, because the statement that "people are born gay" is both illogical and irrelevant.
When someone says that "people are born gay," all you need to say are four things.

When someone says that "people are born gay," all you need to say are four things.
- No gay gene has ever been discovered. And trust me, they have tried.
- If people were born gay, then all identical twins would have the same sexual orientation. The fact that they don't is strong evidence that sexual orientation is not innate.
- If people were born gay, then there wouldn't be thousands of people who have left the homosexual lifestyle and are now enjoying heterosexual relationships.
- Even if people are born gay, feelings do not justify actions. When you are a kid, you feel like hitting people when they bother you. But that does not make it right. And we shouldn't pass laws that protect your right to hit people when they bother you. Just as we tell children, "Stop! That's wrong. Do not hit people," we must tell those who struggle with same-sex attraction, "Stop! That's wrong. God's plan for human sexuality is one man and one woman in the context of marriage."
