Men Need Marriage

Recently I preached on "The Biblical Definition of Marriage" in which I spoke directly to the men, asking them to do everyone a favor and get married.  Not only is marriage good for men, but it makes men better for society as a whole.

Prager University recently created a short video called "Be a Man. Get Married" that summarizes the research on why men need marriage.  Here are some of the highlights.

  • "Marriage has a transformative effect on the behavior, emotional health, and financial well-being of adults, especially men."
  • "Men who get married work harder and more strategically, and earn more money than their single peers from similar backgrounds."
  • Married men also "spend less time with friends and more time with family.  They go to bars less and to church more."
  • "Married men work about 400 hours more per year than single men with equivalent backgrounds."
  • "A Harvard study also found that married men were much less likely than their single peers to quit their current jobs unless they had another one lined up."
  • "On average, married men earn almost 20% more than their single peers.  That's even after controlling for differences in education, race, ethnicity, and other background factors."
Unfortunately, despite the benefits of marriage, the institution is becoming less and less desirable.  In 1960, 72% of all adults were married; today that number is down to 49%.  In 1960, men typically got married around the age of 23; today that number is at 29.

Why is this important?  Brad Wilcox says, "Marriage is a clear path to a better life."  When men get married, it benefits them, and it benefits all of society.  So help me spread the word.  MEN NEED MARRIAGE!
