How to Enjoy This Weekend

Happy Friday!  I hope you have a wonderful weekend.  And I might be able to help with that.  I have a gift for you that can drastically increase your weekend enjoyment.  It's called contentment.  Contentment is being satisfied with what you have, regardless of your circumstances.  It's when you don't need more, newer, or better material things to feel good about yourself and be happy.

How is contentment cultivated?  Five quick things.  First, re-connect with God.  Spend a few minutes alone with Him.  Confess your sins and repent, and ask God to help you with whatever is heavy on your heart.  There's no peace unless you are walking closely with the Prince of Peace.

Second, get your definition of success from God.  Don't let the world tell you what you need to wear, look like, drive, own, accomplish, or have in the bank in order to be successful.  God's definition of success is simple:  Read your Bible and do what it says.  True success is defined by your relationship with God and by how you treat others.  It doesn't matter what anybody else thinks or says about you; only One opinion matters.

Third, remember that the things of this world don't satisfy.  If you can't be happy without it, then you won't be happy when you get it.  This is crucial advice for singles:  If you are struggling to be happy and single, then you will struggle even more to be happily married.

Fourth, don't compare.  You don't need what your neighbor has in order to be happy.  And you are not entitled to what your neighbor has.  Don't try to keep up.  Don't copy.  Don't compete.  Remember that the grass is always greener.  Some poor soul is probably looking at your life with envy and thinking, "If only...."

Fifth, give thanks.  Discontentment comes from focusing on what you don't have rather than all that God has done for you.  When you re-connect with God, take some time thank Him for His many blessings.  Be specific.  Count your many blessings; name them one by one.
