The ACC Is Full Of Baloney (and Hypocrisy)
The Atlantic Coast Conference is removing the neutral-site championships for this academic year from North Carolina because of the state's recently passed law H.B. 2. The law requires people in government buildings to use the bathroom according to the sex listed on their birth certificate. I assume the ACC is attempting to use their influence to both pressure the state to reverse its decision, and to scare other states from passing similar laws. This is similar to the actions taken recently by the NCAA and the NBA against the state of North Carolina.
The state of North Carolina is absolutely within its constitutional powers to pass such a law. There is nothing in the constitution about bathrooms, transgenderism, or gender identity. Any power not granted to the federal government in the constitution is reserved for the states.
North Carolina is right on this issue. They should stand firm, and all states should follow suit. By refusing to allow men to use women's bathrooms, North Carolina is putting the safety of women and children before the feelings of transgenders. This is just common sense.
The leaders of North Carolina should be applauded for their courage to do what is right even when it is not politically or economically beneficial. Even after being criticized and demonized they have stood firm. That's the kind of statesmen we need.
The ACC leadership are being highly hypocritical. James Clements, the president of Clemson, said that this is about the ACC's values of "inclusion and nondiscrimination." The ACC council of Presidents said that the league's "opposition to any form of discrimination is paramount." However isn't the league violating it's own values by not including the state of N.C., and by discriminating against that state? Aren't they treating N.C. different than every other state? More than discrimination, the ACC is actually inflicting economic harm on North Carolina. As well, it is publicly condemning and criticizing the state of North Carolina.
This is about a very controversial political issue, and there are two primary viewpoints. The ACC has chosen one viewpoint, and they have decided that they will not only discriminate against anyone who disagrees, but they will seek to harm anyone who disagrees.
President Obama and the ACC do not merely want transgenders to have the freedom to live that lifestyle -- a freedom they already have. They want to force the entire country to affirm transgenderism as a healthy and moral lifestyle. But that is a violation of liberty, natural law, and Biblical revelation. Federal, state, and local governments must not pass laws that would limit free speech against transgenderism, or that would prohibit the freedom of organizations, both private and public, by requiring them to treat people according to gender identity rather than biological sex.
God only created two sexes or genders -- male and female. Transgenderism is a mental disorder that does not glorify God or lead to human flourishing. Transgenders must be treated with love and dignity, and the Bible teaches us how to love, and it is not by affirming a person's choices and behaviors. Love is speaking the truth and helping people to heal and live according to the truth.
