How to Know God's Will For Your Life
How do you figure out God's will for your life? How do you know which direction to go? Psalm 37:4 gives the answer. "Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires." This verse contains a promise and a condition. The condition is to "take delight in the LORD." This means to make God the most important thing in your life, and enjoy God and the things He has for you. In other words, don't seek happiness, pleasure, or fulfillment outside of God's will. That's the condition. Live a life of holiness and intimacy with God.
The promise is that "He will give you your heart's desires." As you live a life of holiness and intimacy with God, He will place desires on your heart, and it is through those desires that God will lead you to the best pathway for your life. In other words, love God with all your heart, and then do what you want to do. As you love God with all your heart, He will give you your heart's desires, causing you to desire what He wants for you.
So as you are trying to figure out God's will for your life, or the direction He wants you to go, answer these two questions: First, have you been consistently living a life of holiness and intimacy with God? If not, then DO NOT follow your heart. DO NOT trust your desires. Instead, repent of your sins and get right with God. Focus on your spiritual growth. But if you have been consistently loving God with all your heart, then move on to question 2. The second question is what do you want to do? Which direction do you want to go?
