How to Achieve Unity in the Church (and in any organization)

Unity is important, because if we can't get along then we can't get things done.  Unity is important for a team, a business, and it's especially important for the church, because the church has such a heavy mission -- to help people far from God become fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

What is unity?  It means getting along and working together.  It's not merely the absence of conflict, but also the presence of collaboration on the same project and goal.

How can we achieve unity in the church, and in any organization?  Philippians 2:1-4 gives us four acts that foster unity.  These can be applied by any organization, Christian or not.  They work for everyone.

First, don't be selfish.  Don't pursue gain at the expense of others.  Instead, be considerate, careful not to inconvenience, hurt, bother, or offend others by your actions.

Second, don't be prideful.  Don't think too highly of yourself, or that you are better/more important than everyone else.

Third, be humble.  Humility is lived out by treating everyone around you like they are more important than you.

Fourth, look out for the interests of others.  Don't be self-centered, only focusing on your own problems and goals.  Instead, invest time, energy, and resources into helping others.

Unity isn't easy to achieve, but the more that each person in the church buys into these four principles, the harder it will be for the enemy to divide us, and the healthier, stronger, and happier we will be as a church.
