Are You Wise? Take This Wisdom Test

James 3:13-18 provides us with a clear description of wisdom.
"Who among you is wise and understanding? By his good conduct he should show that his works are done in the gentleness that comes from wisdom. But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and deny the truth. Such wisdom does not come down from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there is disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without pretense. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who cultivate peace."
So let's find out how wise you are.  Examine yourself with this short wisdom test.

  1. Wisdom is not envious.  Do you get upset when others prosper, or enjoy it when they struggle?
  2. Wisdom is not selfish.  Do you have a history of doing what you want to do, even though it hurts those around you?
  3. Wisdom is pure.  Are you sexually pure -- mentally, visually, physically, and emotionally?
  4. Wisdom is peace-living?  Are you a peacemaker, striving to live at peace with others, as far as it depends on you?
  5. Wisdom is gentle.  Do you stay calm and kind when you are angry?
  6. Wisdom is full of mercy and good fruits.  Do you share your resources with those in need?
  7. Wisdom is unwavering.  Do you have a history of spiritual consistency, or is your spiritual life more like the pop-song:  "You're hot then you're cold; you're yes then you're no; you're in then you're out; you're up then your down"?
  8. Wisdom is without pretense.  Are you sincere, without hypocrisy?
So how did you do?  Remember, God will bless you with wisdom if you will ask Him.  "Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God -- who gives generously and ungrudgingly -- and it will be given to him (James 1:5)."
