How to Glorify God With Your Words -- Part 2
Colossians 4:5-6 “Act wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each person.”
Christians should always speak in a way that attracts people to Jesus. We are His representatives; His ambassadors; His witnesses; His body; His bride.
Yesterday we looked at five types of speech Christians must avoid. Today, FIVE TYPES OF SPEECH CHRISTIANS MUST PRACTICE.
ONE: Edification. Use your words to build up, not to tear down. Don’t say things that will hurt or offend people; only use words that are kind, polite, gracious. Ephesians 4:29 says, “No foul language should come from your mouth, but only what is good for building up someone in need, so that it gives grace to those who hear.”
TWO: Encouragement. There are two main types of encouragement. It can mean comforting someone who is sad or discouraged, or motivating and inspiring people. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.”
THREE: Exaltation. To exalt is to praise the Lord very much. Use your words to praise God for who He is, and to thank Him for all He has done. Psalm 34:1 says, “I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.”
FOUR: Evangelism. We must use our words to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to people who are far from God. Acts 8:4 says, “So those who were scattered went on their way preaching the word.”
FIVE: Equipping. We must use our words to teach others the Bible. Colossians 1:28 says, “We proclaim him, warning and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone mature in Christ.”
Our words are very powerful. Let us heed the words of 1 Peter 4:11. “If anyone speaks, let it be as one who speaks God’s words.”
