How to Know if Your Church Is Unified

In Colossians 2:2 Paul prayed for the church in Colossae.  "I want their hearts to be encouraged and joined together in love, so that they may have all the riches of complete understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery—Christ."

Paul prayed for the church to be unified, because this is the only way to know Christ fully.  There are certain aspects of the knowledge of Christ that we will not experience without being part of a unified church.  Christ is meant to be known and experienced individually and corporately.

How can you know if your church is unified?  How can you know if you are contributing to the church's unity?  There are three components of unity.  Only when you are seeking all three, and only when your church is experiencing all three, will you be able to experience all that Christ wants to reveal to you.

Component One:  Getting along.  The absence of strife, conflict, and division.  Loving one another.  If the church can't get along, then it can't get things done.

Component Two:  Agreeing on the goal.  The people must agree on the ultimate goal, the Great Commission.  Making disciples.  Helping people far from God to become fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

Component Three:  Working together.  All hands on deck.  Everyone is committed to attending, serving, tithing, inviting, praying, and living a holy life.

It is rare to find a church with all three components of unity.  But a unified church is an unstoppable force in the hands of God.  They experience Christ working in and through them in powerful, extraordinary ways.

So is your church unified?  Are you doing your part to be unified?
