Six Reasons Character is Important
What is character? Character is who you are (your morality) when no one is looking. Your reputation is what others think about you; your character is who you really are.
Why is character important?
1) We are commanded to have godly character. Ephesians 5:1 “Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children,”
2) We will be rewarded for our character. Ephesians 6:8 “knowing that whatever good each one does, slave or free, he will receive this back from the Lord.”
3) Your character will impact who your children grow up to be. 1 Timothy 4:12 “Don’t let anyone despise your youth, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.”
4) Your character will determine the spiritual temperature of your home. You will either attract your family to Christ or push them away. “Speed of the leader, speed of the team.” See 1 Timothy 4:12.
5) Your character indicates the health of your walk with God. Matthew 12:33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit will be good, or make the tree bad and its fruit will be bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.”
6) Character is the most important qualification for leadership. 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9. These passages list the qualifications for church leadership, and almost all of them are character traits, not skills.
If there are cracks in your character, you will eventually fall. Do whatever it takes to develop the character of Christ, starting today.
