The Meaning of Life

In a small group Bible study at my house, a young man asked a profound question:  What is the meaning of life?  Fortunately, there happens to be a Bible verse that clearly tells us.
"For from him and through him and to him are all things.  To him be the glory forever.  Amen."  Romans 11:36
1) From him are all things.  You were created by God; you are not an accident.  You come from Him.  So does everything in the universe.  Not only that, but everything that happens is from God.  He either causes it, or allows it.

2) Through him are all things.  Your life is sustained by God.  God is keeping you alive right now.  Every heartbeat is a gift from God.  He makes sure that your body continues to function properly.  He keeps your body temperature at just the right level.  He enables your body to fight off illness.  He prevents the devil from wreaking havoc on you and your family.

3) To him are all things.  Your life is for God.  It's not about you.  God created you for His pleasure.  To have a friendship with Him.  To walk intimately with Him.  To know Him.  To serve Him.  To glorify Him.  To praise Him.  To obey Him.  To spend eternity with Him.

This is the meaning of life.  "From him and through him and to him are all things.  To him be the glory forever."  This is why you are here.  This is your purpose.

You will only be happy, satisfied, and fulfilled to the degree that you embrace your true purpose.  When you break God's commands, run from God's presence, and neglect time with God, you will meet sorrow and suffering.  The quality of your life is entirely dependent upon the quality of your relationship with God.

So how is your walk with God today?  Distant?  Weak?  Non-existent?  Have you been running from God?  Have you been ignoring His will?  Have you been neglecting Him?  Take some time this weekend to reconnect.  Repent of your sins.  Put your faith in Jesus Christ.  Spend time in prayer and Bible reading.  Attend an online church service this Sunday.  Draw close to God, and He will draw close to you, and seasons of refreshing will come from the presence of the Lord (James 4:8; Acts 3:19-20).
