Five Ways to Grow in Wisdom
"15 Pay careful attention, then, to how you live—not as unwise people but as wise— 16 making the most of the time, because the days are evil. 17 So don’t be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 And don’t get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless living, but be filled by the Spirit." Ephesians 5:15-18Would you like to be able to make better decisions? Everyone would -- especially at a time like this. Life is really the sum total of your decisions. Good decisions = good life. So how can we grow in wisdom? The passage above tells us.
1) Pay careful attention to how you live. Don't be thoughtless. Don't blindly adopt the traditions and trends of the culture. Think about the person God wants you to be, and the things He wants you to accomplish, and make your decisions accordingly.
2) Make the most of your time. Your time is your life. Run out of time, run out of life. You cannot live wisely unless you get serious about time management. Don't waste your time on trivial pursuits. Don't overdo it when it comes to recreation and entertainment. You are here to impact your generation for God. Make every second count.
3) Understand what the Lord's will is. Study the Scriptures carefully so that you know the mind of God. Seek God's will in every decision. His will is best. "With every step you take, think about what he wants, and he will help you go the right way (Pr 3:6, ERV)."
4) Avoid drunkenness. This command applies to any substance or drug that will dull your senses and prevent you from thinking clearly and acting carefully.
5) Be filled with the Spirit. Allow the Holy Spirit to be in full control of your life, and He will guide and direct you. "Who is this person who fears the Lord? He will show him the way he should choose (Ps 25:12)." "When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth (Jn 16:13)."
