Obedience is Evidence of Salvation

One reason that it is so important to obey God's word is that obedience is evidence of salvation.  How can you know for certain that you are saved?  The Bible says that true Christians are obedient Christians.  Look at your life.  Are you striving for obedience?  Do you see increasing obedience?  Are you convicted when you disobey?  Do you obey God even when you are alone, when nobody else is watching?  Do you strive to obey God even in your thoughts, attitude, and motives?

Obedience does not save, but those who are saved are obedient.  True Christians are not sinless, but they sin less and feel worse.  Read the following verses and examine your heart to see if your faith is genuine.

Matthew 7:21  “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven"

Matthew 12:50 "For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

1 John 1:7 "If we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin."

1 John 2:3-5 "3 This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commands. 4 The one who says, “I have come to know him,” and yet doesn’t keep his commands, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps his word, truly in him the love of God is made complete. This is how we know we are in him:"

1 John 2:29 "If you know that he is righteous, you know this as well: Everyone who does what is right has been born of him."

1 John 3:6 "Everyone who remains in him does not sin; everyone who sins has not seen him or known him."

1 John 3:9 "Everyone who has been born of God does not sin, because his seed remains in him; he is not able to sin, because he has been born of God."

1 John 3:10 "This is how God’s children and the devil’s children become obvious. Whoever does not do what is right is not of God, especially the one who does not love his brother or sister."
