My Prayer for Education

Yesterday I had the privilege of participating in the National Day of Prayer in Youngsville.  I was given the task of leading the prayer for education.  Several people were moved by the prayer, so I have decided to publish it here.  Education plays such a tremendous role in the health of our society.  Let us continue to lift it up in prayer.

Heavenly Father, we come to You in the name of Jesus to pray for the education in our community.  We pray for students, parents, teachers, and administrators.  We pray for those in public school, private school, and homeschool.

We acknowledge first and foremost the Lordship of Jesus Christ over everything.  Our children belong to You.  Our schools belong to You.  Everything we do in education should be for you, to glorify You, to advance Your kingdom.

We acknowledge today that the fear the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Father, we begin by praying for the safety of our schools.  Please make our schools hard targets rather than soft targets.  Protect our schools from shootings, fighting, bullying, and drugs.

We pray for the right curriculum for our schools.  Make our schools places of academic learning, not woke indoctrination.  Places where our students can learn reading, writing, and arithmetic, NOT Marxism, secularism, and climate alarmism.  Places where our students can learn math, science, and reading, NOT queer theory, critical theory, and Darwinian theory.

Help our schools to teach Christian values.  To teach the Ten Commandments, the Golden Rule, and the Great Commandment.  To teach respect for authority, love for country, and the value of family, church, and hard work.  Help our schools to reinforce and not undermine the values being taught at home and at church.

Make our schools colorblind.  Where kids are treated according to merit and character, not race.

We pray for total school choice and educational freedom so that parents and students have access to the best educational options.  Help our government to fully support not just public schools, but charter schools, private schools, and homeschools.

Make our schools places of religious liberty; where students can be fearlessly and unapologetically Christian.  Where students are encouraged in their faith rather than marginalized for it.  Where students can openly pray, study the Bible, and discuss their beliefs with others without punishment.  We pray the same for Christian teachers.  That they would have the freedom to be open about their faith, to pray with students, to share scripture, and to provide biblical counsel.

Provide our schools with teachers and administrators who are godly, qualified, caring, and passionate about education.  Bless our teachers with strength and encouragement and resources as they train up the next generation.

We pray for the parents in our community.  Please help them to prioritize education; to get involved; to be informed; and to hold their children accountable to study hard and behave in school.

Finally, we pray for the students in Acadiana.  Raise up a godly generation that will lead our nation back to You.  Help us to protect them from harmful isms and ideologies.  Help us to prepare them to thrive, not just survive.  To educate them, not entertain them.  To challenge them, not coddle them.  To push them to excellence, not poison them with entitlement. To teach them to work, not to wine.  To train them to be thinkers, not gullible sheep.  To discipline them, not enable them.  To teach them responsibility, not laziness.  Please give our students a passion for learning, building, creating, fixing, and inventing.  Please bless them as they are taking final exams and finishing up this school year.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
