Affirming Transgenderism is Not Love

LGBT activists claim that they love transgenders, while anyone who does not affirm transgenderism is hateful.  But the issue is not about who loves transgenders; it's about how to love them.  Christians are called to love everyone, including transgenders.  We love every human being, regardless of their beliefs or choices.  But the Biblical definition of love does not mean affirming a person's choices.  Instead, Biblical love means treating someone with kindness and compassion regardless of their choices, and helping them to make the right choices.

This is how God loves us.  God does not affirm our choices.  Instead, He loves us in spite of our sinful choices, and He paid the penalty for our sinful choices through the blood of Christ.  Then He teaches us and empowers us to make the right choices -- choices that honor Him and that lead to human flourishing.

Not only is the Bible very clear that transgenderism should not be affirmed (read my post "The Bible and Transgenderism), but modern medical research leads to the same conclusion.  Here are four scientifically proven facts that show that transgenderism should not be affirmed or embraced.

First, when a person believes they are something they are not, they have a mental problem that needs to be corrected.  This is true about skinny people who think they are obese, white women who think they are black, and people whose perceived gender is different than their biological sex.
A person's belief that he or she is something they are not is, at best, a sign of confused thinking.  When an otherwise healthy biological boy believes he is a girl, or an otherwise healthy biological girl believes she is a boy, an objective psychological problem exists that lies in the mind not the body, and it should be treated as such.  (American College of Pediatricians)
Second, sex-reassignment surgery does not help transgenders.  Transgenders are unhappy and believe that the answer is sex-change surgery.  The truth is that the surgery does not help.  In the 1960s Johns Hopkins University was the first medical center in America to offer the surgery.  But after finding that it did not make their patients healthier and happier they decided to stop amputating healthy body parts.

Third, cross-sex hormones such as estrogen and testosterone are dagnerous
Cross-sex hormones are associated with dangerous health risks including but not limited to high blood pressure, blood clots, stroke and cancer.  (American College of Pediatricians)
Fourth, in most cases gender-confused children accept their biological sex after puberty.  According to the American College of Pediatricians, 98% of gender-confused boys and 88% of gender-confused girls accept the biological sex after puberty without any counseling.

So in light of what the Bible says, and in light of what we have learned from medical research, is it loving to affirm transgenderism, or to encourage the gender-confused to accept their biological sex?
